Game-Changers: 3 Things Great Brand Photographers Do Differently
When you’re ready to book your brand photography, you’ll probably start by looking around. (It’s a great place to start!)
✔️ Checking out websites.
✔️ Browsing IG pages.
✔️ Filling out contact forms.
But then – as you get in touch with different photographers – you might start to notice something. Approaches and processes vary A LOT from one photographer to the next.
(They may even all sound wonderful.)
But I’d advise you to take a closer look.
When it comes to brand photography, there are three types of photographers:
The kind who capture beautiful images
The ones who work from logic and strategy
And the unicorn photographers who do both – capture beautiful images that meet your unique brand goals!
So obviously you want to work with a unicorn – but how can you be sure they actually are one?
In my experience, I’ve found that there are 3 clues you can look for…
The value provided makes their photography a great investment for your business.
Okay, let’s be honest about this. A great brand photographer WILL cost you more – upfront, that is. A less strategic photographer will cost you more in the long run.
Photography is an investment in your business, and choosing the right photographer is all about getting the best return on that investment.
Spend big now. Win big later.
So how can you tell if a brand photographer is truly GREAT and worth the investment?
Great brand photographers do 2 things differently:
They ask you about your brand's vision and goals.
They LISTEN to what you tell them and use it to craft your experience.
– because here’s the thing: Great brand photographers take pretty pictures – but they do it through expertly crafted storytelling visuals that resonate with your target audience.
So in your search, you’ll probably find a whole lot of brand photographers who offer a 1-3 hour session (provided you rent your own studio space) – and it might even sound like a good deal.
But your money is much better spent going all-in on a full-day experience with a strategic, storytelling brand photographer who provides your business with real VALUE.
The brand photographer is known for providing high-touch support throughout the entire experience.
Great brand photographers are great guides. From your initial consultation to the final delivery of your photos, you should never feel unsure about what to expect next.
1. Before Your Brand Photoshoot
On your consultation call, a great photographer will take time to ensure they understand your brand, so they will probably ask you about your brand’s values and differentiators.
2. During Your Brand Photoshoot
Great brand photographers create a comfortable and collaborative environment where you work together on your creative vision.
Often they give you styling help, hair/makeup support, or prop suggestions before the shoot, but – perhaps most importantly – they provide you with the extra time needed for truly great shots.
3. After Your Brand Photoshoot
Even after the photoshoot is over, the support continues. Great brand photographers remain available to answer any questions as you put your strategic, storytelling images to work.
The brand photographer’s style is consistent, yet customizable.
With great brand photographers, you know what to expect from their work. They have honed their craft down to a signature look.
However, their consistency does not equate to uniformity. By its very nature, brand photography must create space for customization.
Great brand photographers recognize that each brand is unique. They work to
ensure your brand's personality and your brand values are reflected in every single image.
